Installation & Upgrading

REQUIREMENTS

EE2 INSTALLATION

  1. Make a backup of your database and files!
  2. Copy /matrix/ to /system/expressionengine/third_party/ (or wherever you keep your third-party add-ons)
  3. Copy /themes/matrix/ to /themes/third_party/matrix/
  4. Install the add-on package from Add-ons » Modules

EE3 INSTALLATION

  1. Make a backup of your database and files!
  2. Copy /matrix/ to /system/user/addons/ (or wherever you keep your third-party add-ons)
  3. Copy /themes/matrix/ to /themes/user/matrix/
  4. Install the add-on package from Add-On Manager » Third Party Add-Ons

UPGRADING FROM EE2 to EE3

  1. Make a backup of your database and files!
  2. Follow the installation instructions for your EE version (i.e. copy files to add-on location)
  3. In Add-Ons » Modules, click "Install" for Matrix
    • NOTE: You have to "install" the upgrade because this version is a full "module".
VERY IMPORTANT: After clicking "install", you will see a "Package Settings" page
Make sure "Install" is selected for all 3 components (Extension, Fieldtype, and Module) even if their "Current Status" is "Installed"

UPGRADING (in the same ExpressionEngine version)

  1. Follow the installation instructions for your EE version (i.e. copy files to add-on location)
  2. Run the module updater:
    • For EE2: In Add-Ons » Modules, click the "Run Module Updates" button in the upper right
    • For EE3: In Add-On Manager » Third Party Add-Ons, click "Update to X" button
